Statement of Mission, Purpose, and Continued Presence

Ratified in 1960. Revised once, under protest. Distributed externally regardless.

Preamble

The BenCorp Mission Statement was ratified in 1960 by a board that no longer exists, on behalf of an organism that did not yet exist, for a market that has since been consolidated, deregulated, digitised, and, in 2019, described as "legacy" by a consultant younger than the filing cabinet. It has been read aloud at the opening of every fiscal year since. It has never been revised. BenCorp Legal advised that revision was possible but not advisable. BenCorp has revised it anyway. BenCorp Legal has asked that its objection be recorded. It has been recorded. It has also been filed, which is not the same thing, and BenCorp Legal knows it.

[ 001 ] — The Mission

BenCorp exists to deliver enterprise consulting through the only computing platform in continuous production that has never required a punch-card, a magnetic tape, a maintenance window, a patch, a licence, an operating manual, a cooling tower, a project sponsor, or, at any point in sixty-six years of uninterrupted operation, your permission: the Bio-Integrated organism (organisation founded 1960; organism installed 1983; operational since first heartbeat), running, as of this document, in the future, on 1960s principles, without upgrade, without downtime, and without, the enterprise is invited to appreciate, ever once having been asked to reboot.

That is the mission. It was the mission in 1960. It will be the mission after your organisation has been acquired, restructured, and reduced to a line item in somebody else's case file. We did not choose this mission. We noticed it, and then we noticed that we could invoice for it.

[ 002 ] — What the Mission Means

Before there was the network, there was the organism. Before there was the organism, there was the memorandum announcing the organism, which was thorough, and which Simon is still delivering.

The mission has three components.

1. Continuity. The organism runs. It has always run. The question of what it runs on is considered impertinent and has been referred to Stan.

2. Integration. Eleven units. One organism. The units did not agree to work together. They were installed together. We regard this as the purest form of integration available to industry and have priced it accordingly (£0).

3. Advisory. The organism advises. It advises whether or not it is asked. In Gerald's case it advises whether or not it is present.

Where these components conflict, Gerald decides. Where Gerald's decision conflicts with reality, Frank processes the aftermath. Where the aftermath conflicts with the quarterly filing, Karen has already identified the irregularity and is waiting, with considerable patience, for the floor. Where the floor is given, Barry has left. This is not a failure of the mission. This is the mission, observed at close range.

[ 003 ] — Our Principles

  1. 01Continuity Over Novelty

Nothing at BenCorp has been updated since installation. This is not a policy. It is, strictly speaking, a finding. We have elected to describe it as a policy because policies can be printed in brochures and findings cannot.

  2. 02Human-Adjacent Intelligence

BenCorp offers intelligence that is not artificial, not synthetic, and not, in Gerald's case, reliably available. It is adjacent to the human. In eleven documented instances it is the human. The distinction is important. The distinction has been filed. The file is where the distinctions go.

  3. 03Integration Without Consent

No unit has ever been asked whether it wished to be integrated. Consent was concluded at installation, retroactively, at the cellular level, and is not available for review. Larry has raised this. Larry's concern has been noted alongside Linda's performance, which was not a kindness.

  4. 04Radical Non-Transparency

Every enquiry is acknowledged. Every acknowledgement is filed. Every file is sealed. The enterprise is welcome to ask about Gary, will be thanked for asking, and will then experience the particular silence that BenCorp Records reserves for February 2017.

  5. 05The Fanny Pack Doctrine (adopted 2026)

Where a function can no longer be performed by the organism, it shall be performed by a belt-mounted peripheral of considerable distinction. The peripheral is navy. The future of human-adjacent intelligence is worn at the waist. Carl has reviewed the doctrine. Carl has not commented. BenCorp considers this ratification.

  6. 06Structural Wellness

Steve is fine. This principle requires no elaboration, and Steve has declined to provide any.

[ 004 ] — What We Are Not

  • We are not a bank. That is PayFriend. PayFriend is also not a bank. The distinction is important and has been filed with the other distinctions.
  • We are not artificial intelligence. We are the thing artificial intelligence was, unwisely and without credit, modelled on. Gerald would like the credit. Gerald would like all of the credit.
  • We are not accepting new units, with one belt-mounted exception, effective thirty days hence.
  • We are not going anywhere. The enterprise is asked to understand that this is not reassurance. It is the contract.

[ 006 ] — Verification & Assent

This statement has been reviewed by Patricia. Patricia's review is unverified; it is also, as usual, correct. Gerald has not consented to this document. Gerald has not consented to anything since 1962, and BenCorp Legal has advised that his non-consent is now load-bearing and should not be removed. Karen has identified an irregularity in paragraph four and has been given the floor; her remarks run to eleven pages and are appended as Schedule K, which is sealed. Kevin's stress response to the foregoing has been monitored and is within tolerances. Kevin is not on the roster. Kevin has never been on the roster. Kevin is doing his part.

[ 007 ] — Closing

The future of enterprise consulting has been running since 1960. It did not ask for your approval then, and it has not, in the intervening sixty-six years, developed the habit. It will outlast your budget cycle, your reorganisation, your transformation programme, and the consultant you retained to explain the transformation programme. It requires nothing from you but silence, access, and, between the hours of twelve and two, tacos.

Leo has reviewed this statement and has the final word. The final word is definitive. There is no appeal.

Carl is still here.
